And the Secret Museum

For its highly anticipated release, PBS Kids and 9 Story tapped us to conceptualize and develop the digital extension of their new animated adventure-comedy based on Brad Meltzer’s and Chris Eliopoulous’ best-selling kids book series, Ordinary People Change the World.

Kids can change
the world!

The series empowers children, aged 5 to 8, to dream big and recognize their ability to make a real and meaningful difference in the world. So the website (nominated for Best Website — Preschool at the 2021 Kidscreen Awards) and suite of HTML5 games builds on the show’s themes that ordinary kids can be extraordinary and change the world. Each game teaches players about heroes of the past so they can learn how to be their own heroes of the present!

High engagement

In the open-ended Hero Maker experience, kids can create avatars in their own likeness and join their favourite historical heroes on the Secret Museum’s Wall of Heroes! The #2 PBS KIDS game at its launch, it’s seen an average engagement time of 11-minutes! The game was nominated for Best Game — Family and Kids at the 2021 Webby Awards.

Hidden Heroes is part maze, part hidden object game where kids get to explore the Secret Museum in search of missing artifacts and hidden historical heroes. It was the #1 PBS game upon its release with an average play time of 6+ minutes.

Interactive stories

Story Creator lets players create their own stories using an interactive mad-libs style of play that pulls inspiration from the series’ historical heroes and their mantras, and of course, a little help from Xavier and crew! The game features a myriad of stories to experience and make your own. It was nominated for the Award of Excellence for Best Gaming or Interactive Experiences at the 2021 Youth Media Alliance Awards as well as Best Alternative Preschool Game at the 2021 Kidscreen Awards.

COVID-19 Update

To thank the ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked with 9 Story to update Hero Maker with front line and essential workers. These incredible heroes (healthcare workers, janitors, garbage collectors, military personnel, grocery store clerks, firefighters, police) put community first to keep our world healthy and safe — proving that ordinary people can change the world.
